The historic Sanderson Centre is an unforgettable venue for concerts, photographs, wedding ceremonies and receptions, anniversary parties, family reunions, meetings and seminars. The theatre is available to community organizations, individuals and commercial renters.

Healthy Visit Policy - impact on renter ticket revenue

  • Our new health cancellation policy for tickets may result in lower revenues for you in the days leading up to the event. The theatre will cap those potential losses to a maximum of 2% of net advance ticket sales three days prior to the event.

Rental requests

We can host functions from two to 1,125 people. All requests for bookings within the next 12 months will be handled on a first-come first-served basis. Please contact our Theatre Manager for available dates or submit this form. Our specific technical information is available for review.

Sanderson Centre has adopted a policy to ensure priority is given to returning renters with a first right of refusal to renew their rental dates for events taking place more than 12 months in the future.

Please note that requests are collected by July 1st of each year for bookings from July to June of the following year. Requests must be delivered to the Sanderson Centre by email, mail or in-person by July 1. The Sanderson Centre schedules requests during the month of July and renters will be notified by mid-August.

Peak demand periods

The Sanderson Centre reserves the right to limit the number of days available for each renter during peak demand periods in order to better provide access to the facility.

Rates

Please contact us if you have any questions about the rental rates outlined below:

Lobby rental is based on use of the lobby for up to eight hours. All lobby rentals include one staff person, basic setup and cleaning, chairs, and tables (in inventory) at no extra charge. Hourly rates are available. Please note that ticketed events are subject to building surcharge of $3.25 per ticket.

Main lobby

  • Rent - $460.00
  • Hourly - $95.00 per hour (minimum of two hours)

Rehearsal hall

  • Rent - $360.00
  • Hourly - $75.00 per hour (minimum of two hours)

Stage

  • Rent - $650.00
  • Stage events are subject to collective agreement with IATSE 129 (additional charges may apply)
Discounts
  • Weekday rentals (Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) – 15 percent discount
  • Charitable organization – 20 percent discount

If your rental period exceeds eight hours, hourly charges will apply for the additional time.

Additional costs (if required)

  • Stagehand - $41.00 per hour
  • Front of House Staff - $30.50 per hour
  • Insurance – please contact us or provide your own

Commercial:

  • Rent - $2550.00 (against 12 percent net capped at $4100.00)
  • If admission is less than $10.00 - $2050.00

Non-commercial:

  • Rent - $1650.00
  • If admission is less than $10.00 - $1320.00

Charitable:

  • Rent - $900.00
  • If admission is less than $10.00 - $720.00

Competition:

  • Rent - $2600.00

For competitive events where the building is open to the public beyond a typical ticketed performance period of less than four hours

Surcharge will not be charged on competitive events unless the event includes a ticketed performance.

Miscellaneous use:

  • Hourly $72.00

Miscellaneous use relates to private use of the theatre for photos, large group tours (more than 15 people), or other uses that do not fit other rental categories and do not exceed five hours.

The following discounts from the base rental rate are available for all categories excluding miscellaneous Use:

  • Partial day (up to five hours) - 20 percent discount
  • Rehearsal and setup only – 40 percent discount

The following fees and charges will apply:

  • Advertising - as negotiated
  • Credit card fees – 3.6% of sales
  • Insurance - at cost (if eligible or supply own)
  • INTERAC - $0.30 per transaction
  • Merchandise commission - 20 percent of gross sales
  • Piano rental - $25.00 per day
  • Piano tuning - at cost
  • Royalties (SOCAN and Re:Sound if applicable) – three percent of ticket sales or applicable tariff(s)
  • Stage equipment rentals - as required with 10 percent mark-up
  • Event ticket setup - $150 per performance
  • Surcharge - $3.25 per ticket
  • Tickets - $0.25 per ticket printed
  • Followspot - $135.00 per performance
  • Video screen and projector - $ 105.00 per day
  • Wireless handheld - $ 80.00 per microphone per day
  • Wireless lavalier - $ 105.00 per microphone per day

Please note that all stage crew are members of IATSE Local 129:

  • Operator - $41.00 per hour
  • Production Coordinator - $43.00 per hour
  • Stagehand - $36.00 per hour
  • Technical Director - $290.00 per day

The following rates are subject to change:

  • Cleaning - $30.50 per hour
  • Front of House (Usher) - $30.50 per hour
  • Duty Manager - $235.00 per day
  • Front of House Manager - $32.50 per hour

Rules and Regulations

  1. Theatre to supply Font of House staff at user's cost. Number of staff required will be determined by theatre. Some volunteers may be used.
  2. Theatre to supply all technical staff at user's cost.
  3. At no time is the theatre to be used without theatre staff in attendance at user's cost
  4. A ticket surcharge will apply ($3.25 per ticket when top ticket price is $15.00 or more; $0.60 per ticket or attendee for ticket price below $15.00 including free admission or complimentary tickets in excess of five percent of house)
  5. Seating capacity is 1,125 people.

Packages are inclusive of ushers, bar staff, custodians, and up to two stagehands for specified hours. For weddings using the stage or auditorium, or both, the following package pricing is available:

Ceremony and reception:

  • Rent (up to 12 hours) - $2,900.00
  • Additional hours - $140.00 per hour

Ceremony only:

  • Rent (up to eight hours) - $2,000.00
  • Additional hours - $140.00 per hour

Reception only:

  • Rent (up to eight hours) - $2,200.00
  • Additional hours - $140.00 per hour

Wedding rehearsal:

  • As part of a wedding package (up to four hours) - $850.00

Engagement or wedding photos:

  • $72.00 per hour

Additional costs (if required):

  • Equipment rental - at cost plus 10 percent mark-up
  • Front of House staff - $30.50 per hour
  • Host bar – regular bar prices
  • Insurance – call for price or supply your own
  • Stagehand - $41.00 per hour
  • Wine corking fee - $12.00 per bottle
