Juno Award winning Jully Black is a true Canadian Icon. Named as one of 'The 25 Greatest Canadian Singers Ever', (CBC Music)  she has been dubbed 'Canada's Queen of R&B Soul' by her fans and peers. As a platinum selling recording artist  she talks about her dramatic 20 year music journey that includes a career as a singer, songwriter, actor, and TV personality.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS IN CONVERSATION SERIES

An up close and personal encounter with 3 of Canada’s distinguished artists.  Each night will include them telling the story of their careers with the use of video, still photos, readings and/or an interview segment with host, Cameron Smillie.  Each night will feature an extra element such as sharing a personal memento or a musical surprise. And, each evening will offer a chance for a question period - all in an informal setting in the main lobby of the Sanderson Centre. Meet these stars up close. 

Cameron wears many hats with over 25 years experience in both the corporate world and in the performing arts world. In 1993 he co-founded the company – Live at the Hippo Pool Events Inc. with his partner Carolynn for the purposes of presenting performing arts across southwestern Ontario. Hippo Pool Events has the distinction of having presented more of Canada’s Ballet Jorgen engagements than any other presenter, over 30 at last count. In addition, Live at the Hippo Pool Events expanded its mandate to provide consulting services across Canada to a range of clients including the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts, Elora Community Theatre; Ballet Jorgen Canada, Brampton Arts Council, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Alberta Ballet, Menaka Thakkar Dance Company and Ballet Kelowna. Cameron has held corporate marketing positions with companies as varied as the Eastern Ontario Travel Association, Cadillac Fairview and Ascolectric limited. Cameron holds a B.A.Sc. in Consumer Studies from the University of Guelph. In addition he is consulting with a roster of performing artists, theatres and arts organizations on an ongoing basis providing expertise and coaching. This includes the following current positions: Executive Producer for Tompkinsville (Go Fly A Kyte Productions) and Business Manager for Jake’s Gift (Juno Productions) He has received a total of 5 nominations from BC Touring and CAPACOA as Agent/Manager of the Year, winning in 2015 in BC. Also in 2015 he was host of the Ontario Contact conference in London Ontario, winning the bid in 2013. In 2016 he conducted 2 webinars through Ontario Presents on the subject of Sponsorship. His volunteer roles include 5 years on the Board of CCI (now Ontario Presents) ending in 2014 and 25 years on the Management Board of the Sanderson Centre in Brantford, Ontario, ending in 2014 when the Board was dissolved by the City of Brantford. Cameron holds current membership with Theatre Ontario, the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta, Ontario Presents, CAPACOA, BCTC and Arts Consultants Canada.
