FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Brantford, On)
Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts presents
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol Comes Alive Onstage
Showtime: Saturday December 17 7:00 PM
Audiences will have the chance to experience Scrooge’s magical, musical and mysterious journey in search of the true meaning of Christmas once again this year as the Orillia Opera House production of Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol arrives at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts on December 16th at 7pm. But don’t be confused – this is definitely not an opera! The Ghosts of Christmas, Tiny Tim, the Cratchit’s and a host of colourful characters will delight and entertain young and old in this energetic play that features 10 of Canada’s finest professional actors, including Broadway veteran Rod Campbell as Scrooge, and a spectacular set and period costumes.
This is the second consecutive year that this show – created and produced at the Orillia Opera House – will play in Brantford and then tour across the Greater Toronto Area, and this year add another stop in North Bay! Last year's tour was so successful that the participating theatres – including Oakville, Burlington, Brantford, Brampton and Mississauga – re-booked for another year before the tour was even complete.
Based on the adaptation by Donnie Bowes and designed with no blackouts, the show is told through continuous action on a revolving set. The audience will follow Scrooge on his sometimes scary, sometime joyous, but always fascinating journey to discover the true meaning of Christmas. And a young child as Tiny Tim embodies the spirit of our younger patrons.
Brought to life by Emmy-nominated director Jesse Collins, who helped develop the original production some 16 years ago in Mississauga. “It’s such a tremendous cast and an unforgettable story,” says Collins, “Every time we perform it, audiences just seem to be captivated. It’s a thrill to send it out again this year. It puts us all in the greatest mood for the holidays!”
The show is filled with musical moments and finishes with a rousing sing-along concert of Holiday favourites to send audiences home filled with Christmas spirit. This stage adaptation of the Dickens tale is refreshing and poignant — and suitable for all ages.
Rediscover the spirit, laughter and heart of the Holidays!
