FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Brantford, On)
Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts presents CARL DIXON - a man of titanium rock and soul main lobby
Showtime: Thursday February 21 8:00 PM
Carl Dixon's journey of rock and survival is unique in the cutthroat world of Canadian music. He has been member of iconic Canadian bands such as The Guess Who, Coney Hatch and April Wine. Carl’s career began in 1982 with a string of internationally released albums with Coney Hatch and appearances on MTV, touring across North America with the likes of Iron Maiden (40 shows) and Judas Priest.
His career crossed the peaks and valleys of an artist’s existence and has taken him to perform in countries from Iceland to Australia. But, at the peak of his years as lead singer of The Guess Who, Carl was involved in a near-fatal car crash in Australia, in 2008. Broken and nearly destroyed by the stunning number of injuries (approx. 50) including a crushed eye, fractured vertebrae, crushed legs, punctured lungs, lacerated liver and spleen, crushed right arm, traumatic brain injury - Carl lay in a coma. Coney Hatch band mate whispered in his ear "you gotta survive - we have more rocking to do". Against all odds, Carl doggedly worked his way back over many months in hospital care in Australia. Ten years on Carl has found a remarkable new place as a musician, inspirational speaker and businessman.
He's rebuilt every facet of his life. He sings and plays with more heart, freedom and energy than ever, despite the injuries. He returned to The Guess Who for two special sold out appearances in 2016. Carl and Coney Hatch have just returned from sold out appearances in Germany, Quebec and Ontario and all agree that the Canadian hard rock band sound even better than in the 80s - topping off 2018 as Carl's busiest and most successful year ever. Carl is signed to the National Speakers Bureau - with his inspirational talk "Building Success From Calamity". His debut book "Strange Way to Live" was published by Dundurn Press in 2015 and remains among their best seller list. He's a raconteur, with a humility matched by his quick wit. Carl remains one of Canada's stellar rock voices and a popular figure in the sometimes harsh world of rock and roll. With six solo albums and thirteen albums in total including two Juno forays under his belt, Carl Dixon remains a man of titanium, rock and soul.
